Name that boiler contest. Win free coal!

PostBy: Freddy On: Thu Sep 25, 2008 5:04 pm

I mentioned that the Axeman Anderson and the Alternate Heating System boilers are identical....or nearly so. Here's a little contest.
Each group, A&B, is either an Axeman Anderson, or an AHS, or the same boiler but different years. Can you get them all right? The winner(s) get a 5 gallon bucket of pea coal, limit first 3 winners. (no delivery, come & get it, heh heh heh)

Oops, I should have been more clear on the rules... each number needs an answer... like ..(not that these answers are correct) .. #1, A is AA, B is AHS. #2 A is AHS, B is AA, etc. Certainly all the A's are not from the same kind of boiler.

B 3,4 are AA
Do you supply cover for the 5 gal coal buckets?
I would want to drop coal all over those snowmobile trails.

this game cost more than just buying bulk coal
You are still the king of bulk coal
I only have 24 ton a mere pitance compaired to your 48 ton of bulk.
Hot goes the boiler install?
Back in the cellar?

Building a room attached to the garage & the boiler & bin are going there. I'm just about ready to pour concrete & they are saying 7 days or rain. Yuuuuck.

Correct answers: 1&2: A, AA; B, AHS. 3&4 A, AHS; B, AA.

So, while they are not identical, they are darn close!

Blackdiamonddoug, you may not have won, but you earned a bucket and coal, with cover! Yes, you can get here by snowmobile. Stop by!

dang I wanted to play and missed out, believe it or not I had it right, Give aways are: separator cone has welded brkt on side on AA, view port is perfectly round not so for wither on the coalgun, grate is deeper on the coalgun and cam follower bearings are used instead of rollers with flanges as on the AA. Of course I cheated, I have 3 AAs plus a coalgun to look at in my garage. :P

One little difference I did notice is the hole of the ash seperator funnel is a tad smaller on the AHS. I wonder why?

Probably due to the slightly different geometry of a deeper grate and different firepot dimensions (just slightly). The AA copy I am installing actually has a cast iron grate instead of welded steel. Will post a pic when I get a chance.
