I was surprised how intelligent McCain sounded next to Obama. I still think Obama is the man. Palin may lose it for McCain. They better spend lots of time with her on prep. She gives an incredible speech but can't adlib very well and doesn't seem to have a grasp on all the facts. I'm looking forward to the VP debate. It should be a good one.

Couldn't agree with you more trader, about Palin! If you caught any of the Katie Couric interview, it's pretty obvious why the McCain campaign has been keeping Palin away from the press all this time. I think we need to watch the VP debate next week with an open minded attitude, realizing that she (Palin) could very well end up as President with McCain's cancer history & age.
As far as tonight's debate, McCain surprised me by doing much better than I expected, but I think Obama actually beat him on foreign policy issues. McCain's facial expressions and his obvious disdain for Obama will hurt him.

^ Yeah I'm familiar with foreign affairs too, I live right next to Canada! :P

Anyone see how McCain jumped all over Obama tonight for saying that the surge was a tactical move? Right after the debate Biden came on CNN and quoted what the general had originally stated and he said it was a tactical move. Isn't McCain suppose to be the one with more military experience?

Hey Folks
I thought the debate was just great!
I was put to sleep in just about 45 seconds ...Now if I had been watching from TV upstairs I would have been all set for bed.
Debates that are rehearsed ,telepromted and hidden "ear mikes" are just a farce to resemble democracy in action.
Trouble is that concept left politics when big money figured out the way to win in elections is to buy the candidate you want .
I think the last election we had that was not rigged from the start was Kennedy and we all know what happend did to him....
May the richest party with the best TV adds win!! :?
God bless Wall Street and Congradulations for the biggest rip off of American Taxpayers Ever!! Viva La Riche !!!!
To our beloved Senate and Congress...
 Fix Government!! Oust All Incumbents!!
TAKE MONEY OUT OF POLITICS PUT INTELLIGENCE (brains) BACK IN

I would have liked to see Obama smile a bit more and show more passion. I'd have to give John the nod for being more passionate. Also, McCain made it a point to stick up for Israel while Obama agreed he wasn't as fervent. Obama did say he was for clean coal, nuclear and drilling off shore. He may have flipped flopped on that issue.

A well rehearsed, "Talking Point" from McCain. A cranky old man. (like every other campaign tactic of McCain's, it was forced, repeated often & came across as phony...The man has nothing but "Tricks & Deception" to offer)

BO seemed to agee with the talking points of the cranky old man.

“I think Senator McCain’s absolutely right that we need more responsibility…”

“Senator McCain is absolutely right that the earmarks process has been abused…”

“He’s also right that oftentimes lobbyists and special interests are the ones that are introducing these…requests…”

“John mentioned the fact that business taxes on paper are high in this country, and he’s absolutely right…”

“John is right we have to make cuts…”

“Senator McCain is absolutely right that the violence has been reduced as a consequence of the extraordinary sacrifice of our troops and our military families…”

“John — you’re absolutely right that presidents have to be prudent in what they say…”

“Senator McCain is absolutely right, we cannot tolerate a nuclear Iran…”

My take on the debate is both men got a B+.

While Obama appeared confident, he came across as a professor talking to his students like adults. He knows what he is talking about, and expects his students to know also.

McCain came across as a mean contemptuous old man afraid to even look at his opponent.

Obama needs to be able to connect to the viewers and smile more, add some more “sound bites” and simplify his answers. His answers are too in depth for the average (non-coal forum) viewer to quickly digest.

McCain needs to drop the contempt level, actually look his opponent in the eyes and not at the floor so much. Not try to shout the other candidate down so many times. This is a presidential debate not a cable news show.

As far as who “won” that will always be up to the interpretation of the individual listener and the positions they are looking for.

Some good points beemer , & one backed up by all the post-debate polls I've seen. Hard line Dems will think Obama won...hard line Repubs will say McCain won...but.... all the polls I've seen of the uncommitted voters say Obama won & no one can win without the uncommitted. The more negative McCain got the more they didn't like it & McCain's refusal to even look at his opponent did not sit well at all! Even Fox News thought that was a mistake.

CNN poll says Obama won 51% Obama to 31% to McCain
http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/09/27/ ... =hpmostpop
UPI reports the same:

Anyone find a Fox News poll?
