What is the single wall stove pipe clearance for a horizontal run from pipe to ceiling ? My area code says 18 inches but the Manual for the TLC 2000 says 36 inches. Would that be a misprint ?

That would depend on your local code and what they go by. Most would be fine with the 18 inches but some only go by that if there isn't a set spec from the manufacturer.

Here's the section you are concerned with:

"{For parallel installations, the required clearance
distances from the stove are: 1) to the side wall, 18" ;
2) to the back wall, 16". From the chimney connector
to the wall, 18" and to the ceiling, 36". Fireplace installations
must meet these same clearance requirements;
specifically follow.."

I have no clue what they are referring to with that 36" notation but mine have always been 18." (Most installations would not have a full 36" from the stack to the ceiling anyway) Go with 18" & you'll be fine.

I agree with the 18''. What makes me nervous is this. My dealer says 18'' but my code enforcement says they go with 18'' UNLESS the manufacturer says different.If I go with the 36'' I'll only have an 17'' stove pipe from the collar and then the angle pc attached to the horizontal run. Looks kinda SHORT :D

The code officer wants to see my manual !!!!!!!!!! :( Still waiting an answer back from the Harman dealer about them getting something written about reduced stove pipe clearances.

The 36 inch distance could be the distance from the edge of the stove to the edge of the heat shield.
Look at this link and it should help.
**Broken Link(s) Removed**Is the stove being installed in a corner?
