Hot Air Coal Stoker Furnace: AK-110

I am trying to work through the challenges I may have with installing my Kast Console II in my kitchen and came across the portion in the owners manual (and on the back of the stove) which states that I must have floor protection a minimum of 16" in front of the stove. This might be a killer, as I am planning on putting this in my kitchen replacing of my pellet stove and I only require floor protection 6" in front of the pellet stove. I am already bashing my toe on that raised hearth pad every now and then :x

Any suggestions? Is this a number that can be cheated on a little? Is there floor protection out there that's like a mat or low profile?
Maybe I should do some searching online but I figured this is da' place to get answers quick.

Thanks for any information

Mark

I'm pretty sure there is a fireproof mat like a carpet available.

I was just viewing a few of these rugs online. Do you suppose these will pass as protection if I decide to bring my friendly building inspection through for a look?

Not a big rug fan--have you considered just laying some tile on the floor? It would only raise ya about 1/2" at most. Welcome to the FORUM BG. Forget my hearth tile, Check out light tile in pix.

You don't need a raised platform. Most codes require a 24 gauge steel over a non-flammable mill board like they carry at the box stores. I copied a link to Lowes because it has a good photo and dimensions.

Check other stores, fireplace shops, stove shops etc in your area. I am quite sure you can find something for a price that won't break the bank.

Personally for a stoker I think a fireproof rug/mat would suffice, but wouldnt pass inspection/meet code.
