Since I just installed a manometer & since someone had a problem b4 running his stove with his while house fan (WHF) running, I figured I'd try an experiment next time I shut my stove down:

My house is 24x44 with a 2' overhang on the main floor (2 level split-entry) with 7' ceilings upstairs & down.
So far, my manometer readings have been in the .02-.07 range with a small fire going.

Experiment:

Once I shut down, if I close all the windows, open the ash door & turn on my 24" WHF, what will happen to the manometer?

1. Nothing (it will stay at zero)
2. it will give me a reverse reading? (red dye to the left instead of right)

Extra Credit:

1. How will the reading change if I turn the WHF down to minimum?
2. How many windows would I have to open to get the manometer to read zero (high speed on the WHF)

I would think that if it's now reading a negative number that with the WHF running it would give you a positive number since the WHF is now sucking air down the chimney. I would also wonder if by chance it wouldn't just suck the red dye right out of the tube?
