Lion Brewery 4th Annual Oktoberfest October 3-4, 2008

Just returned from Octoberfest @ the Lion Brewery in Wilkes Barre.....haven't ever seen that many "wiener" dogs in one place.....great beer....great food...perfect NEPA day.....check it out.....

I might have gone to the 'fest, if I had known/remembered earlier.

I was thinking this morning, that the Lion used to brew Gibbons, when I was "almost of age". I preferred Gibbons over Stegmaier.

The question for you locals: What was the Gibbons advertisement song/jingle

G-i-b-b-o-n-s (spelled out), pure refreshing Gibbons, if it's Gibbons it's good, so next time you should say, gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme Gibbons

Funny thing is.....I once worked vacation relief at the Gibbons brewery in '69 or '70...got my own "church key" on a string so I didn't bother anyone else to open my beer.
No....OSHA was not in existence at the time. You just went up to the line and grabbed a beer....best job I ever had.

Anyone here old enough to remember this:

Around 1963, '64 they had an ad campaign on TV where they used this European guy with a hand sock puppet. To make it short they would say about Gibbons Beer "GIBBONS, IS GOOD" . They handed out a license plate size weatherproof cardboard plates for the front of your car that said IS GOOD on them. People started painting their own sayings on them like is better, is best etc. Here is a pic of a coaster with the IS GOOD slogan.

Remember the coaster, not the campaign ... but on the other hand, there's lots, which I can't remember anymore.
