I work for READING STOVE COMPANY. Today is the first day I visited this forum. If the web master would like our participation feel free to contact me direct via email or call me at the store. 570-366-7788, just as for Bill. I hope to be able to answer questions and be part of this forum.

than I attached the two new combustion fans on the bottom of the housing of the feed motors in the back they fit over the hole
that was already ther.I just attached them with sheet metal screws.I have alot more air getting to my grates now, I am anxious to try it out
but I am trying to hold off lighting for another week or 2...adam
Adam,
Did you light off your stove yet? I was wondering how your conversion went.

John

John, I had it running for 2 days last weekend when it was cool outside. I believe it ran alot more efficently, especially when the t-stat
wasn't calling for heat.I was able to have a much smaller fire going bye setting my low feed rate on the coal-trol to 3. I never really had to crank out the heat yet, so I am curious to see how it will perform at that time.It is supposed to get much more cooler here in NW NJ
at the end of the week so I really will see what it does....Adam

Cheapest coal trol is $324. The best savings you will see is 10%.
Coal here is 230 a ton. If a person burns say 3 ton a year. They would save 23 dollars per ton - $69 total.

It would take almost 5 years just to break even and thats assuming that you save the entire 10%. And thats the cheapest unit on their site.
Not to hijack the thread, but a couple of quick points:

1) Our experience and analysis is that 11% is a low side average in savings most will see, not the maximum. We've seen and had anecdotal reports of up to 25% or more fuel savings.

2) $324 is the full manufacturer suggested retail (list) price one would pay in a retrofit situation. It is the "worst case" price. However, Coal-trol is available either as a factory installed or dealer option on many brands and models of stoves, including as a dealer option at many Reading dealers. When it is purchased this way it is much more economical, both to a manufacturer and a consumer. And when bought this way it is further offset by the price one would have been paying for either mechanical, rheostat, timer, or traditional thermostat controls. When bought this way the control cost is often a wash or is a low additional cost to the stove, taking only a year or two to "pay off" in fuel savings, not 5.

Paul,

I recently purchased your product at $324. Are there any presets I should use for the Lehigh stove? By the way, you helped me when I bought my unit 2 weeks ago. I bought it becuase of this web site and what the readers had to say about it. Thanks again for great service, it is appreciated out here.

We recommend on Reading stoves:

If you have a separate combustion motor (thermo set to TBRN N): MIn 3, Max 18 (set adjustment nut all the way to top/acorn-nut and then back it off 2 turns)

If you have a Triburner setup (one motor driving stoker and combustion, thermo set to TBRN Y): Min 45, Max 99

Heres the deal with rings coal. He sells coal and stoves in his spare time, as he has a full time job.He is hard to get a hold of, I find e-mails work best. (Not that that is an excuse for not giving you a heads up about your stove.)He still can provide you with coal though. I have been buying rice bulk from him for $315 a ton. I think bulk is easyer than bags.he has centrailia coal from the sherman mine, mamouth vien.I haven't burned any yet as I have a hopper full of kimmels and just started using the stove I should try some of rings coal buy the end of the weekend.I think paris farmers union is up to $350 per ton for kimmels

Yes, that is about right for the price of Paris Union. I won't buy coal or anything else from someone I can't depend on for a lousy return call or email though. I got my coal in bags from Aubuchon, which for me is easier to handle. I can't handle a shovel very well from the wheelchair but I can lift a 40lb bag to the hopper, so I am kind of limited as to how I get my coal. Thanks for the reply.

What was the delivery price from Downeast bagged and what brand is it? I may try them out too if it isn't too crazy to get it delivered.

Downeast has Reading Anthracite

Here's their order form.

http://www.downeastcoal.com/delivery.htm

I'm burning reading rice from downeast in the lehigh right now, it lights easily and seems to put out a lot of heat (but what do I know, I'm new at this)

I've also got 2 tons of Blaschak on order from http://www.ahsfuels.com/ at 345 a ton (but they're in freeport so delivery is way less). That should be here in a few weeks.

Is the $345 a ton delivered? I am 15 miles from Falmouth so delivery shouldn't be too bad. How has your stove been performing thus far?

Here's what the guy told me.
The current price for rice coal is $345.00 per ton. I do offer delivery for $2.00 per loaded mile(from Old County Rd in Freeport) with a $30 minimum. I am running a back order on coal right now but should have inventory available for November. If you would like to place an order let me know so that I can make sure the mine ships me enough rice coal.
Thank you,
The downeast guys were great on the install, but they're in freaking gouldsboro (practically Canada as far as midcoast is concerned) which is about 3 hours from here and the delivery charges are high just because of the mileage.

So far it's been terrific. I'm still figuring out the right balance of feed rate and feed amount and how the thermostat, coaltrol and nut on the back of the stove all interact.

But my kitchen is warm and my kitchen has never been warm in this house (except in the summer).
