Hi,

I created a spreadsheet in Word to record the date, H/L outside temps, bags loaded into stove, and ash bin emptied. I thought I would share it here and it can be modified or used as is. Just download the attachment and have fun.

Trader,

Ty, and I thought I was a freak keeping a note book for out/in side temps, stove settings and coal consumption. :)

Thanks for sharing.

I modified it to record the inside temp/outside temp. Pounds used to top of the hopper and which Dealer and what brand of coal the dealer was/is selling. This way I can compare the useage and brands to see which is burning the most efficient in my stove and the ash content of each.

To be a 'freak' you need to add columns for wind speed and direction, sunrise and sunset [solar heat gain], cloudy or not. The draft in the chimney, and temperature in the chimney recorded on a drum-recorder... Need to weigh the ash to compare with weight of coal added in previous 24hrs.

Now all the above would be a bit much.. but oops I forgot,, a Bacharach exhaust gass tester to record CO and CO2 levels so burn effiecency can be calculated..

 :D

I just keep the hopper full, and look at the amount of ash at the end of the week..

To each his own and I'm a coal freak. My stove is sipping coal as we speak with its new Coaltrol and magnetic thermostat. Anyway, I want to know my coal consumtion for the season at the least. That way I can hoard more coal to get me to retirement. I have about 9 years worth if I'm correct about burning 3 tons a year.

Trader, I have no idea how to upload it. I'm still very much a rookie with computers.LOL. All I did was download your spreadsheet.Clicked on the headers of each catagory and changed them to what I wanted and then saved the new format.

I downloaded this and made a few modifications.

Thanks to trader for making it and sharing his hard work.

I'll start my record keeping on November 1st. I personally love statistics so this should be interesting for me.

I have been recording the hour meter reading on my EFM each day for the last couple weeks. When I get a few more weeks of data I will share it.

If I have the proper motivation to keep taking readings through the winter this will get interesting.
