There have been a number of threads develop concerning the Jotul 507b in the last few weeks so I thought I would provide some pics. Jotul doesn't make 507b any more which is too bad because as had been said in this forum, its a great little stove. I have my Jotul offline so I thought I would break it down and take some snaps in case anyone runs across one and is interested. Mine is in pretty good shape and has new firebrick and side plates, it has also has been sitting unused for longer than I care to admit too. Its going back into use as soon as a chimney is built for it (its on my list).
This is the first time that I have uploaded pics. I'll try to upload in the following order:
1. 507 waiting for a new spot in our home
2. view down with top piece removed includes baffle and rotary grates
3. top door into the fire box fire brick and side plates
4. bottom door and ash pan notice the heavy cast piece protecting the middle door from the fire
5. New Harman Mark II in my basement

Nice looking stove. Wish I had one like that. How does the side and back plates come out so they can be replaced? When you get it hooked up and running do you plan on posting some pics of it in use? That would be cool to see. Wayne.

Snowman,
Did you ever find a 507? The one you were looking at did you buy it? Even if the insides were rough around the edges Its not that hard to rebuild. I don't remember how the side plates are fastened to the outside castings it' been along while.I will tell you this, it's not rocket science. If youv'e got hold of a working stove and are settled in for the winter and you can afford the the cost of a project, buy the stove and put it's rebuild on the list for next year' you'll never regret it. Sorry for the delay in response the weather has been too good to be inside.

Those metal plates just lift out, they are not fastened. Everything fits together and slides down into position. Those parts and the firebrick are available but costly.

I did not buy the jotul I had looked at in Watertown, NY. I decided to keep looking. I found another unit and am suppose to go look at the unit Sunday the 19th. I will keep you posted as to how I make out. I am anticipating this will go well and I will return Sunday afternoon with a nice green Jotul. The owner had sent me a few pictures of the unit and it looks to be in wonderful condition. I had offered to buy the unit from the guy in Watertown at a much lower price. I thought I would rebuild it and keep it for a spare or place it up for sale, however, he never returned my phone call or e-mail. I guess I had offended him with my offer. When I do get one (hopefully Sunday will be the day) I'm sure I will have a lot of questions when firing it up. Questions like how do I know if I'm over firing the unit. I'm sure other questions will come up. Do you have an owners manual for your Jotul? A copy of one of those would be nice to have. When I get my Jotul I would be willing to pay someone for copy of the owners manual. When I get the Jotul installed I will post some pictures of it. Oh, by the way nice pics of your Jotul. I wish I had one right now. I will post any changes or updates as the week plays out and how Sunday goes. Wayne.
