Can I simply connect my downstairs printer to our wireless (Linksys) router (through an Ethernet cable) & have my wife print remotely from her wireless laptop?

As long as the printer is network ready. We have a Brother wireless Color laser printer that can be plugged directly into our Linksys wireless router. I can assess the printer from my wireless laptop.

YOu may just have to set it up via the Network console, or install a remote printer.....

We have our HPL7680 installed on our network and in order to get my wife's laptop to print wireless I had to install the software for the printer on it.

If its not a network printer the computer the printer is connected to has to be on for you to print through your network.

If the printer has an ethernet port it's a network ready printer. Plug it in, install the software on a machine and set it up. Pretty easy, really.

Yeah, it is that simple....I have an HP wireless printer that does not need to be hooked up via a ethernet cable. It is connected through our WiFi, which is really nice. Let's me have my laptops, router, and printer in their own locations, without the worry of cords making things messy....
