Shenandoah stove/heater

Does anybody have any info on this stove? I picked it up from a friend who just wanted to get rid of it. It was hard to part with the $10 it cost me, but it did come with a 40 lb bag of reading nut and another 40 lbs in the stove hardly burnt. It has to be all of 28" wide and 44" tall. The fire box is 24" on the inside of the brick by 20" deep from what I can tell it will hold around 60 to 80 lbs of nut. It is fire brick lined and has rather heavy grates for a round stove. I took it apart tonight and re sealed the top, from what I can tell it should be air tight for the most part. There is a simple heat deflector inside of the stove to redirect exhaust gases before they exit the stove and a adjustable air inlet on the side of the stove surrounded by a shrouding. I painted it and could not get good pics. as it was still wet. I will post more pics when I fire it in the back yard to cure the paint. Any info on this stove/heater would be great.

Well I fired it in the backyard to cure the paint. It did hold about 100 lbs of nut when filled to the top of the brick. It has been ideling at 350f and when opened up 900f measured on the side of the stove. Here are the pics I said I would post. Any info on this stove/heater guys???

I realize this is somewhat delayed but I just joined and searched for my stove. I just pulled mine out of garage where it sat last 10 years since we moved here. Used it previously for 16 years as wood stove before putting in cast iron coal grate option. Tried coal one winter but keep going out because ( I found out later) not enough draft (only 6 ' of pipe ). Worked great on wood and only change I made was to lay a pencil across damper door and edge of thermostat bracket on the side. This provided some damping and kept the door from flapping/clanging due to combustion pulses. Did not try without pencil on coal but figured could use some air above fire for secondary combustion and never tried it. Puffed back many time due to cool fire, running in a mobile home, and not enough chimney but still was more reliable than our furnace so was only heat for 17 years and that's why I took it when I moved. Hope to install in house this month since last winter was K1 at $3-$4 gallon. Sorry for long post - hope to get on coal with help from these archives. Later.

Hello Profveggy, glad to hear from you. Welcome aboard, you will learn very much from this sight. I would like to see pictures of your stove. As far as not enough chimney to burn, that suprises me. Look at the pics of the stove that was mine for one week( friend needed heat source so I gave it to him ) it burned great with 6 feet of pipe. Post pics if you can. I come across all kinds of stoves and just like to tinker and half ass restore them. The Shenandoah I had was the first and only one I have ever seen, would love to see yours.
