The dollar value is up for a short while because overseas banks are trying to get more currency to do business with. The actual value of the dollar is still dropping so once overseas demand is met then the dollar will drop again and ......

Gas on Wednesday in South Jersey was $2.85, it usually runs about .10 per gallon less there than here in MD. Today it is $2.85 here, so I can only guess that it is $2.7? just across the DELMEMBR. Makes me wish I had waited a bit longer to get the propane tank filled!

Hi Catdog,

I checked Union Agway last weekend. Their price per ton is $310 for the month of Oct. Says it's going up Nov. 1 but they don't know to what. Last year they carried Kimmels. Probably the same brand this year. By the way, this is carry it home yourself, not delivered. Not too bad since I paid $363/ton in August.

What is your location in ME. It's a REALLY big state. I was in a hardware store in Skowhegan and they said 405/ton for pea, bagged. Ouch! What size/sizes do you burn? I know of a great supplier in the Lebanon Area, who is very fairly priced.

We are located right in between Rockland and Augusta. Damariscotta Hardware is $410/ton plus delivery (they sell bulk and bagged). I bought mine at Storer lumber in Waldoboro. It was $363/ton plus a $35 del charge (for all 3 pallets). I bought 3 pallets which was 3.6 tons. Union Agway is right on route 17. You have to pick up the bags yourself. $400 per ton is pretty ridiculous. So, I'm tempted to pick up another ton at $310 just to dollar cost average.

I burn nut and pea..

I still cant see how the math for diesel is a $ more than gasoilne works out...Must be that new math...or is that OIL COMPANIES have us by the Nu_zs
Diesel has always been cheaper than gasoline but now its backasswards
Typical reasons..Its winter , Its cold,Its raining, Its the hurricane thats coming,Its short supply,The pipeline broke, the moon went into a new phase,Oil wells will dry up in 5010 at current usage....

Diesel is also very close to jet fuel, which used to be waste from the distilation of gasoline.. Home heating oil etc.. twenty years ago, you didn't see twenty jet airplanes overhead every time you look up, or see as many trucks as cars..

Diesel is just priced by supply and demand.. And YES it pisses me off,,, I've been driving diesels for 25 years..

But, the math for someone who tows anything heavy is not in dispute.. My diesel truck empty gets roughly 20mpg @70 mph.. I just drove 1200 miles Michigan to Hershey Pa and back, and averaged 19.8 mpg and I was running in excess of 70 most of the time.. My same truck with a gas engine would have been 12-14 mpg... Now, add a trailer behind,, I get 13-15mpg towing at 21,000# with a 5 ton load of coal or hauling my car-hauler trailer.. at 60-65mpg.. my friends with the same car hauler at 60mph with a gas engine are at 9-10mpg,, and in passing gear on every hill... miserable driving experience.

Now that diesel is under $3.50 in Michigan, I just heard from a buddy who filled up this AM.. i'll have to buy some more diesel for my farm tank,, it's pretty low. Without road taxes, it should be about $2.25/gal
