Hello All:
I hope you will forgive me on my total lack of knowledge. I have just started researching coal stoves this Summer/Fall and believe it is the way my family should go. Being the woman of the house, the terminology and know how is not quite there. Although I have been reading over as many posts as possible- I am overwhelmed
I am writing this post because finding a decent used stove at this point in the season is not going to be easy and I just found a Keystoker 125A refurbished for sale. Can anyone give me any info on this stove? Even any general info for a first time coal stove buyer/user.
A little detail on me:
We are remodeling and 3 story 100 year old house. Currently there is a 15 year old NG steam boiler in place. Actually we dug out the basement this summer so it is not hooked up- but could be. We currently are only living on the 2nd floor of the house- the first floor is completely gutted down to the studs. There is a chimney vent on the first floor where I believe an old coal kitchen stove probably was. I was thinking to get by this winter we could install a coal stove and hopefully that would heat the 2nd floor. At least keep it from freezing and if we have to use some space heaters to supplement, so be it.
Since we are still in the process of designing the floor plan- we need a temporary plan for now. I am not sure what we can do in the basement to keep it temperate- so no pipes freeze. I could be way off here.....Any guidance at all is much appreciated!!
Thanks!

Hi
you certintly could put the coal on the first floor to supplyment the steam heat.
You might want to insulate the the first floor if its not allready.
Good luck keeping warm this winter.
