How to tell if screw is worn.

I have an EFM AP350 with a S15 stoker on it. Only the stoker motor and water heat exchanger have been replaced. Just started popping shear pins constantly. Fine cleanout is working. Same coal guy for 18 years. Is there any way to measure the diameter of the worm to see if it is worn? I will shovel it out tomorrow and not sure how to check when I get to it. Anyone know how old this furnace is? Thanks
