Picked up Hitzer 82 today

PostBy: Pumpkinhead On: Mon Oct 13, 2008 8:59 pm

Well we really lucked out and found a Hitzer 82 at Anthracite Alternatives in Pittston PA, went up and got it today. Looks like a really nice stove, real workhorse, can't believe we found one so close. Turns out this guy has about 30 Hitzers in stock, good prices, nice guy, even threw in 3 bags of Blaschak for our first burn. Now to get it set up and figure out how to use it--

They seem to be a pretty good stove too. I just got one, and i only fired it once for a few days during a cold snap. I had no problems with it at all. Very easy to get started and keep it running. Markviii also has one. All i did to start mine was just start a wood fire, then when it was going good i started to add coal. Put coal over the entire bed of the stove. then just start to add coal in increments (bout 20 lbs or so) and read about burning off the volatiles etc. Good luck and keep us posted.

Pumpkinhead... There are a lot of people that read this forum. After posting that the dealer has about 30 Hitzers in stock. Just for the fun of it call that dealer back and see how many he has left before closing time today.

Congrats on your new stove.

Its good to know that their not too hard to get going, and I think there's a decent chance that it may be able to heat our entire house, at least I'm hoping it will. I have a three level chalet style home(big drafty barn) thats probably 2500-3000 sq feet, so we'll see how it does. The Hitzer seems very well constructed, and they changed the doors, their now cast iron instead of just steel plate, their really heavy. I went with the Hitzer because of all the folks here talking about them, I had tried to get a Harmon 250 but that wasn't an easy unit to find. I was so thrilled to find a dealer with Hitzers in stock only 50 miles away, and the fact that he still has more is mind boggling, I thought everywhere was cleaned out at this point. May call him and ask how he's doing, mentioned it because I had such a hard time finding mine, just wanted to help others out.

Good find You will enjoy the stove and the heat it will produce. I bought mine direct from Hitzer. Great pepole and very helpful. Been burning mine since 12/05.I have burned Bit in it till this year. Trying Anthracite this year and very happy with it! No messin the stove and flue! Bit and wood in the standby. I work for a Railroad and find Bit all over the rightaway. Rock -n- Rolls out of the cars.

Again enjoy the stove and the many years of true heat.

We also just got our new Hitzer 82 and have been trying to get it going all week and having lots of problems; cannot get the stove temperature to come up past 300 with the damper wide open, ash pan door wide open; what can the problem be?

Sandyjohn, what type of chimney setup do you have? Does it have a good draft? What has the outside temperature been when you were trying to get your stove going?

Sandyjon,, where is your coal from?? Really poor coal is very difficult to get burning.

The Hitzer products burn great when used with a good chimney,, please describe your size and height of chimney, any dampers installed etc.
