Looks like I'll be RE-starting my engine tomorrow -- supposed to be windy & cool -- windy means my insulation goes from an R-9 to an R-0.

Only shut it down during the summer to clean it, and install a new indirect. Guess tonight I'll go out and hit the switch from summer to winter Scott

Only on a coal messageboard would people get excited they're going to have to turn on their boilers/stoves/furnaces. Isn't it great?
One of my neighbors probably has the guys with the tight white jackets on speed-dial after I was ranting about waiting for some cold weather to test the boiler a little more.

On the Oil Forum they are padlocking the thermostats.
I have a friend who actually did put a tamper-proof locking cover over the thermostat in his house.

I'm debating whether to start or not, they are saying lows in the mid 40's overnight and highs in the low 60's. We will need heat (my daughter get pneumonia easy) but I may just let the oil furnace do it. I won't let the house get chilly or cold.

There is a 'cross-over point' where it makse more sense to use the easy to start and shut down oil or gas heating,,, or to fire up the coal system.. my house gets pretty uncomfortable even when the outside temps are in the 50's that I just fire up the coal boiler.. and let it idle through the warmer weather.. the cold nights require heat in this big refrigerator I call my house.
