I want to get a good handle on internal Temps on a koker so I can be aware of any overfirings.

Any suggestions as to where the best place is to get the most accurate temp data on overfirings for the koker?

Any idea what the temp range should be when the thermometer is installed there?

What temp indicates and overfiring?

Nervous wife! :)

Thanks

I won't say that anything is imposable, but I would say it could be incredibly hard to over fire a stoker. Have you considered using a magnetic burn indicator. It could be placed on the stove pipe or on the side of the furnace & would be a good visual aid to calm your wife's fears. I found one at Home Depot for under $20.

Yes, I have one but wondering what the temp should read if I place it on the stove pipe between the baro damper and the stove? min/max/dangerzone? Thanks!

In my experience with my Keysoker 90k the temp on the side of the stoker is around 500 at full fire. When I owned a Koker at another house I never took readings on it, so the temp could be higher with the Koker. My advice to you is to monitor it for the first month of steady use. That way you will get a good idea of what range of temperatures are normal for your setup at full fire and at idle.

You cannot over fire a stoker. If the feed is set too high, it pushes off unburned coal. Set the thermostat to 71 degrees, relax and enjoy the savings. The most critical setting on stokers is the draft. Make certain that it is .03-.04.
