We need some more info.. You and Amishdude are the only members with this stove... so here are the questions:

What height and size is your chimney, is it inside or outside the house?
Do you have a barometric damper installed, or any damper,
Have you checked your draft in the stove or chimney? This requires the use of a Manometer.
How much coal are you adding to the stove,, this is a Hopper feed stove I think, is the hopper full of coal??
Where did the coal come from?? is it a brand-name coal? Or what breaker sold it??

Tell us what proceedures you are using to start and maintain the fire,, shaking and loading schedule etc..

With the above info, we should be able to help. The stoves look like a very nice unit,, this is probably a chimney/draft or coal issue.

Just resonding to this old post because I came across some info on D.S. Machine stoves. I was in Kidron, Ohio looking at some stoves on sale (guess where ;) )and saw an roadsign for another stove shop on route 250 (just South of Kidron) called Coalway. Walked into the shop and it was kind of dark but very large. No electricity and skylights for lighting, no phone, no web page and no e-mail, etc. They had all kinds of stoves from various manufactures along with the D.S. Machines so I picked up a flyer. If anyone wants specs on the D.S. stoves send me a PM and I will send along a PDF. Interesting shop. Do search on Coalway http://nepacrossroads.com/about3388-15.html to see some other info on shop. Nice folks.

This link is broken, either the page no longer exists or there is some other issue like a typo.

Downdrafter, from my woodburning days was a wood burning stove.
The draft was pulled top to bottom then into a chamber where more air was available to do the afterburner thing.
Was it sold as a coal stove?

Coalway is where I got my DS coal stove. I love it! Those guys are very nice and very helpful. They do have a phone, in the barn next door. These stoves are built like a tank and burn great. Have had no problems.

Yep that is the brochure I have only there are a few pages missing from the web site. There are coal boilers from 145k through 230k BTU on one page. And there are wood burning (?) food canners and a page of a "veal boiler" and a "bucket a day stove". And a page Chimney Liner Systems.
