Stove: Alaska Channing 3
Outside temp: 40
Fire on grate: 3"
Stove temp: 250
Inside temp (room with stove) 75
Does this sound reasonable?

As we've disscused on here before about Alaska's and the differences of the dial settings. I'd say the stove temp and the room temp seem to match pretty well. Because #3 on mine will put me @ 350f, the dials don't seem to be calibrated, I just know where mine works best....like you.

Every stove, house, chimney, load of coal, and appliance instalation is different.. What you have sounds reasonable.. but there really is not anyway to compare to other instalations.. just way to many variables..

When I used the manual feed box I had it calibrated so low was a low (idle) fire and 5 was a blaze. I rarely went above 3 unless it was 20 or below. I might have used 4 a few times. Now that I have the Coaltrol I can see that I will save lots more coal. RIght now it's 47 out and I have my stove on idle keeping the house at 70-73. My stove is sipping coal as we speak. This moring it was 36 and I have about a 3-3.5" fire on the grate with temps of about 74-75 near the stove. So far this Kimmel coal seems to burn well. The real test is when it really dips down.
