I'm not sure where to put this thread, but I'll bet somebody here knows the answer.

My stoker boiler is outside of my house, prevailing winds blow the smoke away from the house. I have baseboard radiators. Where the pipes enter and exit through the floors have been sealed. Above the radiators, from about the radiator to maybe a foot higher and on the ceilings above the radiators, the walls get discolored. What is up with this? And more importantly because I do not enjoy painting, how do I stop it from happening? Yearly cleaning of the fins hasn't helped

Hi Charlie, I wll move this to the 'discussion forum'

My take on the walls being discolored is that even though the prevailing wind sends MOST of the Bituminous soot and smoke away from the house.. some is still getting in the house, comes in with you on your boots and clothes, and of course the regular Wyoming /Montana high-desert dust is there too. So the air in your house just has a lot of dust and particulates in it..

Not much you can do, maybe use a humidifier/filter to remove as much as possible??
