During my intial burn, I put a real load on it, I ran hot water, turned up all the thermostats, and ran hot water to the shop floor,, the AA burned for about 30 minutes straight,, maybe 40 minutes... I saw 550* in the flue, 12" above the breach.. I made the grand daddy of all clinkers.. about the size of a phone book.

I didn't have the probe installed during my first burn . I still don't think the 130 would run that long unless its was really really cold . Not enough water . So far I have only seen 1 large clinker . But up till tonight it has pretty much been idleing the last month or so . I will watch it ,I may have to move it . So far I have not seen it get over 350-375 . Dave
Will this boom coal go boom in my kaa2 keystoker (if it gets here by spring) I have 24 ton of buck/rice mix to burn.BIG BEAM wrote:Freddy,
Of all the coal I've burned Superior has the most volatiles. This is the only coal that I burn that I have to leave a little flame burning so as to not get a BOOM.This happened to me a LOT last year,so much that my wife calls it boom coal.I think it's kinda like using nito methanol in the family car.But it also makes more heat with less air than any other coal I ever burned. It is'nt just a little hotter(in my hand fed) It's in a class by itself.

Not really. Now that the bin is full, I have no way to know how much food goes in, I can only examine the poop that comes out. Today will be day three that I weigh my ashes. I need to find out how much ash Superior coal makes so I can do reverse math. It's looking like it might be around 6 pounds ash per day average. Give me another week & I'll know more. In volume, just over a ten quart pail each two days. Is that a lot?traderfjp wrote:Have you figured out how much coal you're using in that boiler now that you're getting it dialed in
I don't think a keystoker can go boom. The nature of how the coal is delivered and burned it so totally different than the AA's that I'm thinking a boom from a Keystoker is just not possible. It's the price we AA & AHS owners pay for the extra efficiency.efo141 wrote:Will this boom coal go boom in my kaa2 keystoker

I recently read a post that said Superior's coal had an ash content of around 12%, but that is down from what it was last season. Coalberner could probably give you a more exact number, but using those figures and ignoring any unburned coal in the ash you are burning about 45-50lbs per day.

Well, it's been over a month since I got the AA going. Yesterday I raked the bin level & measured. Of course it's still a guess, but it appears that I've burned about .6 ton. The math says 42 pounds a day. OK, I guess I'm doing alright. At least now I know I'm not using 150 pounds a day! Of course it's burning some more now that it's 16* out and hasn't been above freezing for 3 days. Nice & comfy in here! It's amazing that a little auditorium of dancing blue ladies in an outbuilding can keep this house nice & warm.
