View more smileys

PostBy: coalkirk On: Tue Oct 21, 2008 8:23 pm

Suddenly when I try to view more smileys and use them, i loose my post. Instead of coming up on a separate page only, it takes over the page i was posting on and I can't go back. Does that make sense?

No it makes no sense and I just tried it both FF and IE without any problems.

Try clearing your cache first.

If that doesn't fix it, load the posting page, go to View > Source.

Copy all the HTML code and post it here in code tags. Also note what browser you are using.

Anyone else having this problem?

It never used to do this. I just tried it again and it did the same thing. The little window pops up with the extra smileys and then boom, my large page where I had just typed my post disappears and the that page also goes to all smileys. If I use the back button, I can get back to the posting screen but my post is gone. Clear my Cache? Hell Richard, I'm married, I don't have any cache!

Sorry, but that I cannot fix. :P

I'm assuming you are using Internet Explorer? Browsers store a lot of information locally on your computer, you may have aolder version that is causing the problem...

In IE on the top menu click Tools > Internet Options

On the general tab click the "delete" button under "Browsing history". This will bring up a choice where you can delete various things. Nexet to temporary internet files click "Delete files". I don't see anyone else reporting this so it must be problem on your end.

This is a IE bug and cannot be fixed without compromising security. From my understanding it's still present in IE8 too.

The simple solution is use Firefox. :D

All right I found an error that might have been causing that, not sure why I can't reproduce it. Is it fixed now?

FYI, IE will still drop text if you move away from the page, you need a different browser to fix that. ;)

I couldn't reproduce this in IE before or now so I don't know what the issue might be especially if it just started happening.

No, not fixed. What used to happen was "new smileys" would open a new page but not close the original page. When i had selected my smiley, I simply closed the new smiley page and I was back on the posting page. What was happening until your recent change was new smileys would open a new page and my posting page would also become a new smileys page. Both would be open and I could switch back and forth. Now New smileys just takes over my posting page. I'll be able to get by without new smileys. I only mentioned it because something obviously changed and in my experience, changes that cause one such problem can also cause others.

It should work in IE too, have you changed your internet settings in IE or added any software that blocks javascript?

If you're blocking javascript what you describe will happen.

If you click the popup link below this image does open a pop up window or just act like regular link?

Interestingly, when I view Freddys posts, even with firefox, I still don't see his smileys, just the alpha description of them. Only Freddy though. Wierd.

????? Can you answer that?

I believe I've see some posts by Freddy where he has used smiley code that doesn't work here, he might be used to another forum and typing them directly in. If you know the exact code you can type them in, you don't have to use the smiley window. There should be smiley at the end of this post:

1st day with AA130 on line.... then... BOOM!

When I click the pop up link below that image, it opens a small window overlaying the existing window.
