Finally, got my first coal fire going last night. My first attempt was Monday night which was unsuccessful; ;) smothered the coals or not enough air and ran out of time. Second attemped was last night. Started with a very hot wood fire and slowly added coal until I had a 3" bed. I noticed the middle sections wasn't buring, so I added more wood on top of the coals and that did the trick. I slowly adding coal until the box was full. Happy to say that the house was toasty by 8:00 pm. Woke up this morning and the house was still warm. :) The furnace realy didn't use that much coal last night, so I topped it off and went to work.

I'm starting to like this coal thing and my wife is happy with the warm temp :D
