I'm going to start my "new to me" Harman Mag. this weekend.
During set-up ( no fire) my chimney is neither positive or negative. I placed a hair dryer in the base of the flue last nite and could get to about a -.015.
What kind of stack temps should I see with the Mag ?
Do you think the heat will induce a draft close to -.05 ? ( when firing)
I know I'll find out soon enough but I was curious what folks are seeing out of their flues during off times ?

I did have a Harman sf250 on the same flue, with no ill affects but I'm new to stokers.

Many Thanks, Mossy Beard

YOu only need to run -.02 to -.04. You baro damper should regulate it to keep it close to those values.

Yes, some have put hair dryers in the pipe to warm it up. I usually just throw a starter bag (or some charcoal), build a pile, light it, and turn the stove on. It doesn't take long to get it going up the chimney. Unless it's really, really cold, but my stove is usually running before the weather gets really cold. (plus it's an inside chimney thru the center of the house about 35' tall or so). Talk about drafting! My Baro Runs 1/4-1/3 open most of the time.

Also, the colder it is outside, the better the draft, so it may go higher once you get down to below 20 degrees and depending on your chimney type, (pipe, brick, inside, outside, etc...).

Most stokers exhaust runs 150-250 degrees (approx). You baro damper will decrease it by at least 100 degrees. I have been checking my stove, before and after the baro, and about 100 degree difference. I don;t think I have seen over 300 degrees going up the chimney at full burn.

Good luck. Let us know your results.
