I'm new to my stoker - it has been running almost a week. We absolutely love it and don't know why we didn't get one sooner.

To the point: The thing I wasn't really prepared for was the amount of ash. Several friends/neighbors have stokers, so I was prepared to empty the ash pan daily, but that's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about the fine, gray stuff that's all over the inside of the lower part of the stove (where the as pan is), on the glass, etc. I even peeked in the barometric damper, and it is coated inside as well, so I assume the rest of the pipe is also. Is this normal?

Yes it is normal. That is fly ash.

That is also why some have installed a "T" instead of a 90* elbow to allow the vacumming of that fly ash from the chimney pipe. If it builds up too much, you will lose some draft.

I usually vacuum the inside bottom of the stove once a month and as far as I can reach into the pipe or so to keep it to a minumum.
But that is normal, the fly ash will go everywhere. You also need to check the pipe for buildup, I had almost 2" of ash in the horizontal run of my pipe after the season....
