Take all the sheet metal off of it,, it bends easily,, remove the stoker from the side of the base.. unbolt the boiler from the base,, the bases often are too weak from corrosion to use to support the boiler while moving it..

Then you can rent an engine lift, just make sure it can straddle the base,, many of th engine lifts' lower legs are too narrow to get around the base..

PM 'coal berner' he will know the weight of the boiler and base to the ounce !

You may also post the same request on the EFM forum, maybe it will get a quicker answer..

Thanks , Moving a Harman boiler up cellar stairs was tough. Hoping to do it easier this time.

Here is a suggestion...use a 4x4 and blocking set across an upper door frame, then wrap a chain around it and attach a come-a-long between the boiler and 4x4 to help "hold and tug" the boiler tank up stairs. Of course, you need a door frame with some distance away from top step...some 'chocks' or pry bars under boiler help too. If you use a plywood and some angle iron with carriage bolts, you can build a sled for the boiler to slide up the stairs on. A strap over the boiler oriented up/down the stairs, as opposed to across, might work to hold boiler to sled (or a more elaborate angle iron lock-down can be made). If you have to go around corners - like a landing - use cut PVC pipe to make corner guards that will protect the drywall and allow the chain to easily slide.

Just some thoughts to consider and improve upon :)

Good luck!

Mark

First thing you will have to do is pull the auger and tubes off then pull all the jackets off the boiler & base then unbolt
the 4 screws on the blower plate then unscrew the 2 side plate screw pull the blower and the pot out you will need help
they are not light plus the pot will want to fall forward once you unscew the side plate screws you also may want to pull out the baffle plate to aswell as the ash ring below the pot that slides in from the front threw ash door

How much room do you have between the boiler top and the celler floor joist you will need 1 1/2" to clear the boiler from
the base They are not screwed together if you have the clearance above the boiler to the floor joist you can drill two holes one in each floor joist and stick a 3/4 " steel pipe in between the joist as closest you can to the floor then stick a chain hoist on to the pipe and on the fill pipe on top get a threaded cap the same size as the pipe which will be 1" Or 1 1/4" in the center of the cap drill a hole and put in a threaded 3/4' eyebolt with a nut bolt it to the cap screw the cap on to the fill pipe lift the boiler up 1 1/2 " pull the base out then lower the boiler onto 1.5 or 2 " pipes two or three one in
front center and back roll base over to the steps put 2 planks on the steps take a flat end pry bar lift the end of the boiler onto the planks then use a chain with a hook stick it the veiwing door or a winche and pull it up the steps on the planks

depending on how steep the steps are when yo get close to the top you may have to lift up the planks at the bottom to help get it up to the top Now if you do not want to or can not drill holes in the floor joists Then Use a flat pry bar under
the front corners of the base lift up and put the 2" pipes under it and roll it over to the bottom of the stairs when you get there take the flat pry bar lift up under the corner of the boiler take a short plank stick it under between the base and boiler from the front to the back of the base then do the same on the other side now you can slide the boiler off the base to the planks that you already have on the steps you will be somewhere on the third or fourth step now you can pull it up the planks and outside before you take it outside put the pipes either on the floor or ground at the top of the steps then
put the boiler back on it and roll it to the truck when using the pipes you will have to keep putting back under the boiler when they roll out always keep one under at all times Good luck and have fun Take your time and make sure you have help 2 to 3 guys let us know how you make out
