my buddy has a digital tstat on his alaska. It works, but he gets big temp swings and burns more coal than he needs to.

Depends on teh wiring of the stove, my keystoker has a honeywell box (transformer), just make sure you have 24vac to feed the Thermostat. The thermostat has to override the timer box, the timer box is for idle mode, you can't just run it off the thermostat, so when it's not calling for heat, it has to keep the fire going somehow. :?:

Start putting your change in a jar and before you know it you'll have the money for a Caoltrol. I'm saving a tremendous amount of coal with it-so far.

IT'S NOT ABOUT THE MONEY! Its about doing it my self with some help from you guys! I thank it can be done by using the timer with the thermoisat you would have to use the timer to fine tune the thermoisat so that you don't over shoot the stove. as the temp. changes outside you would turn the timer up. can you get me some pic. or a diag. of the unit your buddy made. that would help! I thank if you own a coal stove you like to tinker! av8r if you can get that I would appreciate it.also thanks for the input wny I thank we brought our ams oil from you lancaster s.d.? did you try this ? there was a person from P.A. that made them and they worked from what I herd . he was selling them on e--bay and they stopped him! they being coal-trol I think?hhhhheeellpppppp. :|

All my buddy did was replace the tstat on his wall with a cheapo digital one. This guy doesn't have the aptitude to wire anything.

Most of the timer boxes are 110Vac and just turn off/on the stoker. You would need a 24VAC Honeywell (or equal) Thermostat Control box. That's how my Keystoker is hooked up. The Timer Box (Intermatic) controls the IDLE/Pilot burn, the Thermostat kicks in and overrides it and keeps the stoker going until temp is satisfied.

This is what mine has on it...might help you out.

THAT DOSE HELP THANX . DID THAT COME WITH THE STOVE OR DID YOU ADD IT ? I THINK WHAT I WILL USE A 110 V LINE VOLT THERMOISAT SPST TO BRAKE THE POWER TO THE TIMER BOX THEN USE THE TIMER TO SET THE FEED RATE SO THAT I DONT OVER SHOOT THE FEED AND PUSH TO MUCH COAL ON THE GRATE AS IT GETS COLDER THE FEED WILL GET TUNNED UP.WAITTING ON TIMER TO GET HERE.

Yes, my keystoker had one. I will have to check the exact model, but it looks very similiar to that. I know the timer box runs all the time, the thermostat just overrides it. I think they are wired in parallel to the stoker, wouldn't matter if the timer was in the contact mode or not.
