Web Conferencing ???

Web Conferencing ???

PostBy: Rick 386 On: Mon Oct 27, 2008 4:24 pm

Do any of you techies know anything about setting one up ??? Software ?? Equipment ???

I'm on the National Board of a trade group. We meet semi annually at differing locations. The board consists of members from N.H., 2 from Cleveland area, 2 from Phila area, 1 from Seattle and one from Phoenix. Due to the costs associated with having a meeting, I wanted to make a proposal to them that we try a web conference rather than meeting in January. The January meeting would probably be in Cleveland anyway. We did it last year and it was friggin' cold and nasty. Plus we always have the possibility of a Lake Effect snow storm grounding us.

I figure that I could just stay at home saving hotel and airfare if we could set this up.

I'm open to any and all suggestions.

I think we use http://www.WEBex.com , not sure of the pricing, but I know there are others ones available too, that do similar functions. http://www.gotomeeting.com is another.

You can all login, call a conference number and display your desktop to anyone logged in and talk with all too. :)

Haven't ever set one up except for a short test one day and that was for a single stream from my own computer so I couldn't tell you if it will fit your needs.... On a shoestring (e.g. free except the time to set it up and the server to run it) I'd start here: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

We do these all the time. What functionality do you need? Do you need to see people? Most just use a tool that allows each user to enter a meeting, see a preso, talk/chat, etc.
