The company I work for was kind enough to loan me a manometer. The problem is, it needs fluid in it. What can you use? I read a bulletin from Dwyer that says the liquid for a Model 25 needs to be a specific gravity of 0.826. Ammonia is 0.826. Can I just use ammonia in it?
Thanks,
Jeff

I would think if the same specific gravity it should work? put a couple drops of food coloring in to see it better. You can probably try it.
Just be careful filling it, do it slowly, it reads really fast if you put too much in, then you have to dump it out and start over....

Back off the Zero Adjustment 3 turns,
You bet...overfilled it 2x, just put a little in, wait, a little more, wait....etc...until it goes up to Zero, then adjust

I'm not familiar with the guts of a Dwyer Mark II Model 25 but maybe WYN can tell you if the fluid smelled of ammonia. Ammonia is basic - to opposite of acid(ic) - and could be corrosive if it remains in contact with anything other than plastic. Another point to consider is that the ammonia is a water solution. With the solution exposed to the atmosphere thru the tube ends & accelerated by exposure to constant vacuum with the furnace running, the ammonia will eventually evaporate out of the water - which also evaporates. Once the ammonia evaporates, the solution's density will slowly change to nearer 1.0, the density of water. You could always work out a PM program to change the solution every so often if corrosion isn't an issue. I'm guessing you could use some type of oil as it's less dense than water but then viscosity has to be considered. Just some thoughts..... maybe off the mark.Ash instead of Cash wrote: What can you use? I read a bulletin from Dwyer that says the liquid for a Model 25 needs to be a specific gravity of 0.826. Did anyone ever consider filling it with the correct "Dwyer fluid" ?

Thanks. You would have if it did - especially if you spilled some! Dallas nailed it - just too logically by looking it up - somebody had to think of it! The link says it's oil.WNY wrote:Sorry, didn't smell it, just filled it up, calibrated it and hooked it up.
