New to Reconstruct Controls for Boiler
I just bought a Menomonee Boiler Co boiler that is lacking controls and am looking for help. The old owner cut everything, water and electrical, when he bought his house. I am planning on putting the now separated pump on the bottom fitting and making that the inlet. The top fitting will be the oulet. I am thinking that I will need a 24v relay from the thermostat to control the 120v for the pump. I am also thinking that I will need somesort of temperature switch that will make within a range that will control the blower. Does this sound correct? What temperatures should the blower turn on/off at? Thanks.

I used to own a Menomonie Boiler. You want a Honeywell 8124 aquastat to control the water temperature, the combustion fan and the circulator..
You can find used Honeywell aquastats on Ebay for about $50 or so.

Does your's look like this one?

Thanks for the advice. I did find a couple of 8124 aquastats for sale there and will probably buy next week. That will be much easier than putting the individual components together! It is reassuring to see that you have used this type of stove with coal. I guessed I could, but did not know for sure. I am starting from scratch on everything. I will have to figure out the best way to shake the grates and will need to determine how to best pipe from my separate garage into my house. I currently have electric heat in the house, but did also purchase a small modine unit I am going to try to use if it is not to loud. I am thinking I will hide it in a future fake fireplace. My coal will be bitoumonous, 1%S, 1/8-1/2" in size, that is somewhat dried, but has a significant amount of rejects (mostly stone) in it. Any advice you have learned will be welcomed. Thanks again.

I would go with the L8124A if available. The thermostat connects right to the Honeywell aquastat, terminals marked TT at the top left of it on the L8124A. The circulator is powered directly from the lower right, IIRC, it is terminal RW (water). RB (burner) powers the combustion fan. It should be in the instructions. If you don't get them with the aquastat, they are available @ Honeywell's website. You may need a low voltage transformer to power the thermostat if you don't have one (they are cheap), you can wire that right off the boiler's service switch. If you are anal retentive, you can use a Honeywell 6006 for over temperature control to blow off heat.
Your plumbing is correct, supply out of the top, return to the bottom.

You will have to use a poker to shake down the ash, or more correctly rake the underside of the fire to get the ash to fall through the grate.. The rocks and chunks of ash will need to be removed every week or two by letting the fire burn out, and cleaning off the grate..
