DJ based on what you have described the 6" is plenty large enough to handle the draft created by the chimney. IMO your problem is either a sticking damper or a combustion fan set to put out too much air. Do you have a type RC damper? If not that or a type M is recommended for coal. I have found that the type RC have a tendency to stick, I usually bend the plate where it meets the curved side to give enough clearance so the pivot pin can travel back and forth in the slot on the sides with no sticking. Also as GAW said you need to make the adjustment to the sliding weight to match not only the orientation (vertical Vs Horiz) but also the desired max draft.

On manometer setup (or magehelic gauges as well) the high port is left open to reference ambient, the low port is hooked to the pipe/boiler/stove/furnace so that the resulting negative pressure will read positive on the scale (which has the best resolution). If you have trouble remembering this just remember that ambient is higher pressure and that forces the needle to move to the positive side when the low port is taken to a pressure less than ambient.

Based on all the discussion here your setup should be work to keep the draft no higher than .04 which should be safe for that boiler.

Now that you have commented on that, My KA-6 was special ordered for a 6" chimney even though the standard KA-6 has a 8" chimney.

This may be the reason a 6" damper will not adjust down low enough
when I was thinking about buying a K6 I called the factory and asked if it really needed a 8" chimney.
They said yes it does need a 8" chimney... they never said I could order it with a 6" chimney.

it might be that you ordered a K6 for a direct vent setup , I think that would be a 6" collar.
You might want to check this out.

I did origonally order it with the direct vent, but when they got the order they called my dealer and told him they didn't recommend running the duel fuel KA-6 on a powervent, but they could build it for a 6" flue.

That sounds like they are saying we don't recommend a duel fuel k-6 powervent but we will build it for you anyway.

it dosen't make sense that a K-6 can have a 6" chimney.... my Harman VF3000 requires a 7" chimney and it outputs 96,000 btu.
the K-6 is a larger BTU output I think it's around 144,000 so it should require a larger chimney.

here is a link to keystoker boiler info, you can see the smaller KAA2 has a 6" collar.
**Broken Link(s) Removed**you should call the Keystoker factory and ask them about this.
