Finally, Praise the Lord it is FIRED UP!!!!!! :D :D :D
Up and running perfectly so far. Man is it quiet, not like that old rattle trap of an :rambo2: oil boiler.
Now it just needs to get cold out!

Spoke to soon        . Pressure went up over 35 psi, pressure relief valve works  !!!! Had to shut-er-down!. I thought the expansion tank on the oil boiler would take care of the system. Better follow the instructions, tommorow I will be putting an expansion tank directly on the coal boiler as recommended by keystoker! :)

What kind of expansion tank is it?
When I fire mine up, the pressure went up to 35psi and was spewing hot water out of the PRV.
I forgot to drain the expansion tank after I got everything running. My expansion tank is the gravity overhead type, not the newer bladder style.
Once I drained the ET, everything was good.

The expansion tank on the oil boiler is an Extrol Model 30
I simply bought another identical unit and piped it directly to the top of the coal boiler.
I came up and hung it from a "T" then put a drain valve after it, that way I could purge the air.
Has been fine now pressure between 18-23 psi, depending on temp

Stoker Coal Boiler: KeyStoker KAA-2

Post by greg_gran » Thu. Nov. 06, 2008 10:52 am

My new KAA-2 has been running for about a month now. Very pleased with mine also. Make sure you don't have to much draft - it kills the efficiency.
As for the relief valve - mine popped off once also. Turned out that my pressure reducing valve on the water inlet had a slow leak and was letting pressure rise slowly. Once I took care of that, no more problems. I also discovered that having the circulating pump on the outlet side of the boiler - pumping away (after the pressure relief valve), helped noticeably.
