Hitzer 30-95 or Harmon Mark II

Hitzer 30-95 or Harmon Mark II

PostBy: Sundin67 On: Sun Nov 02, 2008 4:12 pm

I know I asked about the Harman vs the Vermont prior, but doing more research, the height of my current exhaust from my surdiac is 19" and the flue is 5" as pictured below. For me to install a Harman I would need to change my exhaust and my chimney.

After doing more research I found the the Hitzer 30-95 exhaust is 18" and the flue is 6" which peaked my curosity.

First off which stove is better since this is a long term purchase?

Regarding installation, can I make the Hitzer work in the same location as the Surdiac without doing brick work or chimney work?

I am going to be burning pea coal not nut, but I have no choice since I have 4 tons of it:)

Also, the hitzer is rated at max btu's of 55,000, the Harman is 72,000 btu, does it make much of a difference?

As always thanks so much

Sundin67, You could lower the hitzer by one inch ( via a hack saw to the legs ) and be in the game in a hour or so. I have run all sorts of stoves over the past 40 or so years and have fell in love with my most recent purchase ( hopper fed stove ). I have run harmon stoves and they are fine stoves but the convience of a hopper fed stove is a godsend. A hopper fed stove requires less attention but if you like to tinker and play with the fire then a batch fed is the answer. A few of my friends own hitzers and love them.

Hi Sundin67,
This is my first year using a Hitzer 30-95 and it's been a really nice stove. I can't say if the Hitzer is better than a Harmon but if you search the site for Hitzer posts you'll find that most people are very happy. I am using nut coal but I think some of the folks here are burning pea with great success. If I read your post correctly you would need to raise the Hitzer 1" that would be easy. As far as the BTU output I can only sat that the Hitzer easliy heat my entire 2060 sq ft with ease.

Good Luck
