In fact, other than control over the military and foreign policy, the president has little control over the economy, including commodity prices. If he did, things would have been smooth sailng to grease the skids for McCain. I can almost hear the refrain a few months or even a couple years from now when there are problems. It won't be Obamas fault, it will still be GWB fault. I like you Devil and admire your dedication to things political, but you really do need to lighten up with the drone of bashing the opposition party. It is tiring. You cherry pick the things you like that bolster your argument and ignore or dismiss things that argue against it including videos with the words coming out of Obamas mouth. You can't have it both ways.
Obama wasn't my choice for president. But now that it is a done deal, he's my president and I will support him until I think he is harming the country or working aginst my interests. We are all in this boat together and I certainly hope he will be a good president and leader. Many I speak to seem to think he is something special and will actually lead the country. I hope they are right.

Devil: this post was actually made in the NEW rules thread and was moved by the Mayor. I mention that because I made references that were responses to previous posts in that thread.

Coalkirk, You hit the nail right on the head! I'm with you 100%

This drop has nothing to do with Obama being elected as the next president. This drop in the Dow is totally expected and we will continue to be in this mess for sometime to come. People are expecting the next GDP numbers to be negative the next time they come out and reassure everyone that we are in a recession. A globe recession at which from past history shows it takes about 18 months before we get through it and come out the other side.

Loss of jobs and CC closing 150 stores this month all have a huge impact on what the Dow does and it was all in the works long before Obama got elected.

We are not in a recission until the G.N.P goes negative, I think we are running about 2% positive right now.

Things just are not growing like they have (6%-7%) in the past 7-8 years, plus with the needed adjustment in the credit market a lot of things have tightened up a bit.

The GDP was negative .03% the lowest it's been in 28 years when announced about a week ago. They expect the next one to be better but they are not expecting it to be on the positive side do to holiday sales decline and more layoffs which had another 240k which was more then expected http://www.cnbc.com/id/27591407

If you can define it???
recession - a decline in GDP for two or more consecutive quarters.

You still defend the worst President in the history of this country...GW Bush....but yet you attack a man who hasn't even sat down in the Oval Office yet?!?

That's what the democrats and the press did to Bush. Were you OK with that?

They trained their weapons on him immediately because GWB won as a result of a just supreme court decision that prohibited Gore from counting only the counties he was running close in, thereby increasing his chance of winning Florida.

The press showed its bias then and then they showed their teeth for eight years. It was unjust by any measure.

Argue for a fair press, devil, and you'll get my support against assailing a candidate before he takes office.

A sense of fairness suggests giving a new president six months to get his troops on the ground and in position. After that, all gentlemen's agreements are off.
