Obama Wins

Surprised no one started this already, in any event I'm quite suprised he won by so little. Considering the baggage McCain was carrying a 5% margin is not all that great.

I thought the race was going to be closer considering Obama is black. I was also surprised Obama won states like Montana and other traditional Republican states.

5% of the popular vote is historically HUGE.

Myself, I watched the debates, and decided on who I would want to represent the US on the world stage, with hopes we can repair the damage of the last 8 years.

I also watched a lot of Fox News, fox news will tell you over and over and over they are the only non-biased news organization in the world. There broadcast were very helpful in researching the real facts. When they warp reality, it makes it much easier to identify what the candidates actually represent with some proper research in to what was actually said and what was actually done. FoxNews helped Obama win.

I agree that it was a pretty decent margin, taking into account the racial overtones that this campaign inevitably made us face as a nation. I also feel that, while the McCain camp was bucking the very heavy headwinds of the unpopular 8 year Bush Presidency & general anti-Republican sentiment in this country, his campaign's relentless negative attacks on Obama & choice of a totally unqualified running mate for VP angered the voting public & drove them away from his party even further.
Add to that my opinion that Sen. Obama ran a practically flawless & tactically sound campaign while McCain's tactics were wrong at almost every turn (& there were plenty of turns ) led to last night's result.

My outlook "today". ????

The country isn't going to get staightened out in 4 years, it could even get worse. Might as well be able to put the blame on B.O. and the Dems. Should B.O. not be able to fulfill his term, then just blame the Dems and Biden. There was no good reason to have thrown another GOP under the bus.

If B.O. does a great job? ... O.K.

Honestly I am not surprised by the results much at all. These last few weeks, I actually believed that Obama would have won by a larger margin. Personally I want to thank everyone here on this site during this God awful long campaign. The research everyone did and posted was not only entertaining but very educational too. So much to read so little time to read it all but thank you all!

On a positive note, thank God we won't have to read "four more years of Bush" & see that weird Bush-McCain photo.

Congratulations to Barack Obama for running a far superior campaign to John McCain. Also, I congratulate the vast majority of Americans of all races for putting skin color aside in this campaign. The best thing that will come of Baracks' victory is the stature the US will gain around the world for electing a minority president. Finally, the barrier has been broken for African Americans who have struggled for centuries in this nation for equality. While I cannot stand liberal democrat policies, I have secretly prayed for Obama's victory. A nation united thrives, while a nation divided is not a nation at all. To that end I will continue to pray for his success as a brilliant and balanced leader for our nation.

I was wondering if this was the thinking of the GOP all along.It did seem to be a half hearted attempt on their part.

He was in a terrible spot I think and found himself so far behind that he had to play up to the Staunch Ultraconservative members of the GOP (many are on this site!) in order to get their enthusiastic support. I still have a lot of respect for the man and think he gave one of the most thoughtful and poignant speeches I have ever heard from a losing candidate.
