Good day,
I am in the process of rebuilding and installing a Keystoker A-300 warm air furnace in my basement, and was wondering if it would be acceptable for me to add a magic-heat unit after my stove and before the chimney to recover some of the heat that would be going up the stack and heat my basement area. It is a unit that fits on the stove exhaust pipe that takes that actually acts as a heat exchanger. My father has one on his oil boiler and it does a nice job of putting some hot air in the basement.
You can look at it here:

Let me know what you think.
Thanks,
Bob

Had one for a while, it was not worth it. Remember stack temps are usually low for Anthracite, you don't want to cool it too much you may reduce the draft.

Do a search on "HEAT RECLAIMER" on here, your exhaust is not going to be that hot, and if you take more heat out of it, it can affect the drafting too. Mostly made for wood stoves that run 300-500+ exhaust temps. most coal stoves run 150-300 depending. I wouldn't waste the money, plus it uses electric to run the blowers too.

Hello Art,, if you are expecting to be pushing the furnace hard, then your exhaust flue temps may be high enough to make the 'Magic-Heat' worthwhile.. but you really won't know untill you run the furnace for awhile.. with a probe-type thermometer in the flue..
The Magic-heat units are rather pricey,, so unless you find one used or on Ebay for a reasonable price,, I'm not sure I'd spend the $$ without measuring your exhaust flue temps first..
Hope this helps.. Greg L
