- Stoker Coal Boiler: Van Wert
- Other Heating: oil boiler
I recently bought a farm and the farmhouse came with a Anthratherm VA 600 which hadn't been used in five years. I just got it up and running today and was wondering if there is any way to get info and parts for the stoker. I can't find much online about it and was wondering if it's a decent furnace or if it's prone to break downs.

The Van Wert is an excellent furnace, you have a gem on your hands. Ours is 25 years old and will probably be here for another 25 years. No major breakdowns in that time. Pumps, motors etc have been replaced but that will happen with any furnace.
If you have a domestic hot water coil hook it up, keep the furnace running year round and it will last forever. You'll burn about one ton+ of coal between May and Sept. so its probably as much if you ran the hot water heater. Regardless keeping them going constantly will extend the life. Sounds crazy but since coal ash is so corrosive that can cause some serious issues down the road if its let to sit for extended periods of time.
Note that the Van Wert burns buck if you don't already know that.
I haven't written it down but you can get parts for it. Stoker-man the guy from EFM knows where.

Matthaus knows of a person recasting most of the VanWert parts. He also has a lot of spare parts..
