Secret Svc links Palin speeches to spike in death threats

This thread is about a report that the Secret Service had to deal with an October spike in death threats directed at Obama following the Palin speeches in which she undisputedly pumped up the alleged Ayers "domestic terrorism" connection.

It's not about whether or not somebody yelled "kill him" or some other horrific exclamation at any one of such rallies, whether in PA or elsewhere.

And I've checked snopes and google today and I can find absolutely no evidence that the statistical assertion reported in my first link above is fake in any way. Or that it was previously reported by Olbermann or anybody else.

Did you read anywhere past the first paragraph in your article? Guess not, It directly references the "Kill Him" incident in the second sentence nonetheless.

The Republican vice presidential candidate attracted criticism for accusing Mr Obama of "palling around with terrorists", citing his association with the sixties radical William Ayers.

The attacks provoked a near lynch mob atmosphere at her rallies, with supporters yelling "terrorist" and "kill him" until the McCain campaign ordered her to tone down the rhetoric

This is pretty much the only information that can be found from any U.S. media sources. Searched a few places and no mention of the Secret Service stating this.

OK, let's look at it another way: was there or wasn't there a spike in death threats on one particular candidate in October and, if so, why?

The article says what it says, and it purports to be sourced out of the Secret Service. No corresponding assertion regarding any of the other 3 candidates for the top two offices.

I don't know and I really doubt the Secret Service is going to release that information to anyone. Certainly Obama has had a target on him since he started becoming popular for obvious reasons. Frankly I think anything Palin had to say would be inconsequential because anybody that truly has intentions of attempting to assassinate Obama has already made that decision a long time ago. She may have created an atmosphere for idle threats but that's about it.

As far as the things she did say I think we can agree that every politician goes over the line on everything they say about their opponent. I've heard equally ridiculous statements from both sides. Perhaps Obama shouldn't have been so secretive about his past instead of fueling the speculation.

Come on, that makes no sense at all. You saying that he is at fault for being half black and not spilling his entire life on the floor for the likes of this forum and the public to digest? So who sets this incredible standard as to what and is not divulged? Do we have to list every woman or girl we bop before marriage in order to qualify for office? Do we have to try and list every item that wasn't exactly the truth in our life? How far back do we go, to prenatal days? What else do we have to vomit up for the public? Who decides what is and is not acceptable, the guys from this forum? Great, we know how bipartisan they can be. That train of logic just doesn't work.

I don't know where you got that from and it has nothing to do with his color. Anybody entering the political arena can expect this whether you're white, black or purple with pink pok-a-dots. Unfortunate but that is the way it is, don't blame me. Blame the media and the people who suck it up. I can care less about who he slept with back in 1980 and frankly the amount of scrutiny that politicians have to endure about their private lives is ridiculous. However if you want to be President I think your College years and any political groups you have had ties with in the past is fair game. Hiding that information or not releasing can only lead to speculation.
