I just saw this and thought I would pass it on. It is important for those of you with AVG antivirus software.

I've used and enjoyed free AVG for years. I'm glad the USA wasn't effected and that mine does not auto update. Sh*t happens! A real bummer for those hit with it though.

Normally I am a big advocate of auto update, especially with virus and spyware protection software, but this would be the exception! :-O

I ran AVG for a couple of years and always had problems with my computer that no one could explane or fix, I started running Windows Live One Care, and everything runs great and my problems have stopped. It is a little pricey but so far it's worth it.

Bksaun, the one thing that AVG is know for is a small footprint. It should not effect the performance of your computer nearly as much as other A/V. One thing to remember about security software is you have to make sure you aren't running conflicting programs because they usually don't play nicely together.

That doesn't make you immune, lots of system vulnerabilities are found in software that installed on the OS, not necessary a fault in the OS itself.

Example: There was a contest last March to see what OS could be compromised in the shortest amount of time, the Mac machine was the first to go down...due to a vulnerability in Adobe flash. http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/03/29 ... _standing/
