Extreme Home Makeover makes a stop in PA

Extreme Home Makeover makes a stop in PA

PostBy: Mark (PA) On: Wed Nov 12, 2008 4:20 pm

I just ran across this today and figured I would through it out there. maybe there are some people on the forum nearby.

Extreme Home makeover is doing a show/remake of a house in Waynesboro PA.

I am in no way connected to any of this but I enjoy watching the show and really support what these folks do....

Might be neat to swing by and watch if you live close by! building a house in about 5 days is impressive...

They did a really nice house in Wells, Maine and I heard it was recently either repoed or sold due to the huge increase in the tax bill. He was a guy who lost his arms in a fishing accident and still went out lobstering everyday despite his injuries. Good man to keep working like that. Wish we had more like him.

I've heard that before and not necessarily about that particular person. Apprently that is not the only issue as the value of the makeover itself is taxable:

They just redid a Passenger train car close to us for handicap accessible from the help of a local kid where I live.
Really Cool. Arcade is only about 30 miles from us.!

Yup this is my neck of the woods, but because of what I do and know about this I'm hesitant to say anything so I'll just direct you to another local paper which has daily videos of it.

“Because of their financial hardships, the family has not made any improvements to the home, which is heated by one single wood-burning stove,” said the release.

They say that like it's a bad thing - my house is toasty warm even when heated with a "single wood-burning stove". :D

What I don't get about that show is most of the "winners" are on it because they couldn't afford to fix their place up to begin with, how are they going to afford the utility bills and increased taxes for a house that's 2x or 3x the square footage?

A good paying job would be a better "prize" than a McMansion.
