Next question. If the stove is in the basement, and the basement is about 800 sq feet. But, the living room area of the house above that we are in most of the time is above the garage. The area above the basement is the kitchen and family room. Will the heat travel into the garage and get that room warm through the floor? or will I need to leave the garage door open from the basement for the heat to go in there? which I don't want to do.

Also if the stove is on the one side of the room in the basement, will I feel the heat directly above it on the next level much more then the heat on the other side above the basement?

Registers would help with rising heat to your kitchen and family room.Doorway fans would also help transfer heat from one room to the next. But just keep in mind that the air also needs a return path to form a continuous loop to and from the stove. But as far as your garage goes, unless it is well insulated and sealed it would just leach all the heat and not rise to the livingroom. Insulated ductwork with distribution fans from your office to the rooms on the first floor would be a better bet. But even with them you would need a way to capture the heat from the stove.

My worry is having a 90 degree room in the basement without helping the rest of the house.
