I started the stove today. With the heat control box at 3 my manometer was getting .04 from the knock out plug on the left side. Now I have it turned down to 1.5 and the draft is .02. Does this make sense? Half the fire/heat, half the draft? If so, if I set the heat to .5 or 1 is the draft too low and at 5 is the draft too high? The owners manual says, "recommend a minimum draft of .04". Does that mean it should never be below .04?

Besides being new/uneasy about the draft readings everything else is going very well. No problems starting the stove. I havn't had a hint of CO in the house. And set at 1.5 with it 32 degrees outside the house is staying very comforable.

You want a minimum of .03" or .04" if your owners manual says .04" set it there for the maximum that the baro will allow.. You will often in warm weather have less than what the baro is set at, the chimney can't draw as well with warm temps.. a baro is a draft limiting device not a draft creating device..

Hello kjb

I am noticing the same thing on my alaska channing.
i was having difficulty getting a .03 to .04 Then after talking to alaska stove they told me after backing the dv motor to the stove all the way, to remove the dv motor and move the blower impeller toward the hole ( creating more vacuum to increase draft ) after doing this I was getting a .04+ but now again with a med to low fire I have a .02 ???? with a high fire I am getting an almost .03 ( thats like a .028888 bouncing to .03 on the meter) the guy from alaska said that at a low fire the draft should increase and also sometimes people just cant seem to get a .03 with a new channing dv. verrrrry confuuusing.

ON a low fire, there is NO way the draft can increase, the draft increases with HEAT FLOW, the more heat (or colder outside) the more the draft.

If it's really cold out, your draft will increase some. But the baro will maintain the proper draft on the stove.

Yes, you should set it when it's fully burning to get your .04 setting. It will be much lower on idle, but as long you have some draft (.02 or so), you will be fine. Mine will go down to .02 when idle and when it's warm outside.
