Getting ready to clean my ash pan out on my Pocono BV for the first time. I think I am going to shut the stove off momentarily by the switch on the controller so the fans won't come on and blow the ash all over as I swap the pans out. Will this affect the settings in the Coal trol thermostat in which I would have to reset all the setting I put in?
I have a Hyfire II and there is no need to turn off anything. What I do is scrape the last 1/2" of ash off the grate, close the door for a few seconds while the ash settles, then remove the ash pan and take it outside to dump. Really haven't had any problems with ash flying through the house either while walking outside. By removing the last 1/2" inch of ash I have not seen any ash drop while I am out dumping.

And you do this with the stove running & coal burning?
Turn the stove off when you empty the ash pan it won't mess up your coal-trol settings. If you leave on while you open the door all of that CO goes into the house and some ash as well. I only have one ashpan and I turn my stove off and take the ashpan outside and dump it and I have never lost the fire yet. When the stove has been idleing for a while I cant toil for very long because my fire is very low when I come back.
if you have a tractor supply around you can get a extra ash pan their for 10 bucks.I found a 9'' tall round pal that works perfect,I am actuly going to get a couple more. It's eaiser to handle than the stock pan,the bucket handle makes it easier to open doors
