Not sure which aquastat I need.I would like to control the following:
-Draft control to fire boiler when temp. is down.
-Circulation pump when at desired temp.
-Overheat protection (dump valve or zone bypass)
I was looking at a Honeywell L8124A, but not sure if I need a B,C,D,E,F ?
This is a add on to my oilfired boiler,I use the zone valves through that system. Any advice ???

Assume you're going to have a solenoid or stepper motor open the draft? Otherwise can't see aquastat controlling it.

Break on rise (L4006A) will handle circ pump
Make on rise (L4006B) will handle overheat.

I couldn't find a way to do it with a all-in-one aquastat with my handfired. If you don't plan to run the oil burner you could use aquastat in the oil boiler to control the circ pump, or put a switch in to allow easy cutover. Wire the 4006B in the coal boiler to a heating zone as your dump zone. Plan for what happens if the power fails.

I don't have a 4006A in the coal boiler to run the circulator. Once the system is warmed up convection flow seems to do the job. I did put an extra well in the existing gas boiler while the system was drained "just in case" I wanted to add it later

New Yorker Boiler has some good schematics and layouts, I based my setup on theirs.

I use the 8124 on both my home designed 'Big Bertha' boiler and on my AA 260..

I think...not quite sure.... that the A,B,C.D are just different years. Nonetheless.... my coal boiler is a C.

Link to Honeywell 8124 series aquastats. The primary differences between the suffixes are integrated circ control and ability to run zone valves.

Here are the direct links to the PDF manuals for the 8124 series aquastats

(A,C,E,L,M suffix) http://customer.honeywell.com/techlit/pdf/PackedL ... 5-6571.pdf

(B,E,G,L suffix) http://customer.honeywell.com/techlit/pdf/PackedL ... 0-0786.pdf

You'll still need a seperate control for the overheat/dump zone.

It was a slow day at work so I made a Wiki entry for this info an a little more.

https://coalpail.com/coal-heating-encyclopedia/aq ... c-controls

Does anyone use the Wiki, it's kinda empty in there :D

It would be nice if Honeywell had one table with all the aquastats and their properties.

If you have one pump and zone valves (or one zone) I would go with the A.
