I'm using Blaschak pea coal. I've been using it since Thursday and I have the damper set at one full turn. Stove temps are at 275 to 300 degrees. It burns so easy with two fills a day and very little ash. I love it. I just filled it with some of the Kimmels nut coal I have. There was a lot of other "stuff" in the bag and the coal sizes differed greatly. We'll see how it goes. It's going to burn faster. But have more heat output though. At one full turn of the damper, I'm at almost 350 degrees. I live on a cranberry bog so no problems with draft here. I always have wind coming off the bog. I like using the pea as I use less and have less ash to empty. It works great on the warmer days. I've never had it go dead on me. I do keep a pretty good eye on it though. I will say I like Blaschak better than the Kimmels. The sizes are more uniform and no extra stuff in the bags. I'll let you guys know how the bagged Kimmels is when I shake it down in the morning.
All I want for Christmas is coal...
