First time this fall/winter..Been cold here 26*. It's supposed to be the same for the next few days. I put new stove pipe on this year with no seams and crimped 90's and 45's. Heat-Fab 22 GA pipe nice stuff!! I've got 3 tons of coal. Mix of nut and pea size. I'm liking the pea coal. Burns slow. :D

Oil man eat my soot!!

RePete, Are you still liking the pea coal? I have made a few comments on other threads about my disatisfaction with its sluggishness, and need for more frequent shaking to keep the coal bed breathing. I am burning a Hitzer 30-95. Last year I burned nut and everyhing went just about perfectly. :)

I'm siding with RePete. Pea has been burning very consistently. I'm still trying to dial in the nut. A mix of the two seems to provide good heat and good burn.

I have been burning pea coal in my Hitzer 30-95 and it has been running great. The only issue I have is the coal around the edges just stays on top and never makes it down to the ash pan. I use a poker to help move the coal down.

Hi guys,
I'm using Blaschak pea coal. I've been using it since Thursday and I have the damper set at one full turn. Stove temps are at 275 to 300 degrees. It burns so easy with two fills a day and very little ash. I love it. I just filled it with some of the Kimmels nut coal I have. There was a lot of other "stuff" in the bag and the coal sizes differed greatly. We'll see how it goes. It's going to burn faster. But have more heat output though. At one full turn of the damper, I'm at almost 350 degrees. I live on a cranberry bog so no problems with draft here. I always have wind coming off the bog. I like using the pea as I use less and have less ash to empty. It works great on the warmer days. I've never had it go dead on me. I do keep a pretty good eye on it though. I will say I like Blaschak better than the Kimmels. The sizes are more uniform and no extra stuff in the bags. I'll let you guys know how the bagged Kimmels is when I shake it down in the morning.

All I want for Christmas is coal...
Pete :D
