Keeping Lid Off Hopper?

Is it dangerous to keep the lid off the hopper?

Supposedly, with the lid off and under certain conditions you could encourage a hopper fire.

many run with it off....my keystoker has vents in it, so it really doesn't matter whether its on or off. I run with it off most of the time to see the coal and fill it. It's in the garage, so looks don't matter to me. Never had a hopper fire.

Lid off doesn't mean squat! I will look for a quote from Jerry.

I put mine on the shelf after about 2 months running it last year. I can mound up the coal and get more in. lol
