How long is your feed pipe?
What is your draft?
Can you turn your air setting down, and still get a good burn?
And of course your going to get the reply from other so I'll say it.
The Manufactor recommends the use of rice coal.

Are you feeding out of a drum or an actual bin?
I'm figuring a drum.
I'm doing the same.
The problem is with a short pipe the air can easily blow down the pipe into the drum.
The best thing if you have a drum is to fill it to the top and put a lid on it.
If your still getting it, go buy some rice in bags and fill it. See if it stops.

Your feed and air are pretty low. Make sure your feed pipe isn't getting to hot.
Here is a link to explain.

I agree with the previous post..
You have two items that will cause fumes in the hopper:
Short auger pipe
Loose [larger size] coal letting air through easier

The suggestions are good:
Keep the hopper full,
Keep a lid on the hopper,

and is your EFM recently rebuilt? if not you may have bad gaskets in the burn pot, causing excess air in the fresh coal and the auger.

If your air is at three, that doesn't mean you have a good draft. IMO you need to measure and verify the draft before the baro. If it is less than -.02"WC you will most probably have an issue with coal gas working it's way out the feed auger into the bin.
