Weapon for home defense?

Shotgun. Remington 870 with a shorter barrel swapped in.

I agree!...A shotgun is the best home defense weapon but some people feel more comfortable with a handgun due to it being smaller, lighter & easier to maneuver around in tight quarters.

In reality that should apply to misdemeanors like speeding tickets as well. "I respectfully refuse to answer that question" should be the answer to most encounters with the police, and that is your right as under the 5th Amendment. "Anything you say may be used against you in court".

In ny there is NO duty to retreat in a dwelling and deadly physical force can be used in a dwelling. and outside of a dwelling there is only a duty to retreat if it is practical to retreat; if you are in a car and someone outside the car pulls a knife, drive away; if someone outside the car pulls a gun, there is no reasonable ability to retreat, thus you can shoot to kill. ny state's laws on these matters are very clear and consistantly held up in the courts, there are cases each year where homeowners shoot someone not intending to break and enter to do harm (drunk neighbor, drunk college student) and the homeowner has consistantly not been charged with any crime. amazing in NY state, and might not continue, but now that is the way it is.

Berlin, what's your basis for those statements, particularly about no duty to retreat or evade home invasion attackers? I've talked with two county approved safety class instructors, one lawyer and one cop (both from the area, Onondaga County) and they all indicated that while prosecution for using deadly force against a home invader when evasion/escape was practical was unlikely, the letter of the law left leeway to prosecutors and that the law, if pressed by a prosecutor, could be read that escape/evasion must be pursued if available and that deadly force was a last line of defense option only, even in the home.

I may be recalling this wrong or have been given bad info. I'm genuinely interested on where you're coming from with this.

I can't understand how any state could prosecute someone for defending their own home. That just amazes me!! It's mind-boggling!!! What kind of morons did we elect????? :mad:

If someone enters your home without your explicit permission, you should have the right to shoot them DEAD ON SIGHT!! Even my best friends knock or ring the bell if they show up unexpected. EVERYONE I KNOW KNOCKS BEFORE ENTERING!!!!!!!!!

When I lived in Arizona, all that was needed to buy a gun was a valid AZ drivers license. A guy I went to school with out there used to ride his motorcycle with his .357 revolver ( he named it BETSY) strapped across his chest -- that's the way AMERICA IS SUPPOSED TO BE!!! I remember him waving to the motorcycle cops as we were riding through downtown Phoenix & they just waved back! CAN YOU IMAGINE DOING THAT IN BOSTON!! HA!! They'd call out the National Guard & declare a state of emergency!!! Just getting a permit in MA requires all kinds of red tape BS , then you have to buy the gun!! GOOD LUCK!! They might as well just legalize rape -- why not? They make it impossible for a law-abiding citizen to get a gun, while criminals can just stop their car, crank up the bass on a side street in the ghetto, & 50 guys will come out of the shadows with guns, crack & meth to buy !! YYYAAAAAAAYYYYYYY MASSACHUSETTS!!!!!! :mad3:

35.20 of the NYS penal law says that deadly physical force may be used against any person entering a dwelling they reasonably believe to be attempting to commit a burglary OR arson. in the situation of arson, they do not have to be entering or inside of the dwelling to use deadly physical force against them.
