What they "knew of" was that all governments are at best a necessary evil and that there were going to be times when force was necessary.

Declaration of Independence wrote:Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.

How do you suggest we "provide new Guards" with smooth bore muskets vs. Predator drones?

Treaties require only the ratification of the US Senate. The upcoming UN vote on firearms will almost certainly be rammed through the US Senate while it is still dominated by the Democrats. If I'm not mistaken, treaties ratified by the Senate supersede the Constitution. The Second Amendment is seriously under attack here. The very least to come of this will be global gun registration. Also the mandatory destruction of any firearms deemed by the treaty to be "unauthorized".

I think your wrong on that point, no treaty trumps the Constitution, pretty sure that fight has already been fought.

Then why bother with the treaty at all? Why waste taxpayer money on it (we easily waste far more on holding up the UN than the purported $50 million that the Republicans are being bashed for in their effort to overturn Obamacare)?

I didn't even know there was going to be a attempt for such a treaty, but if there is it will be voted one time with a result. Congress has tried over 30 times & still gets the result that they don't want to accept, if nothing changes then why keep trying & spending? If after the elections & there is a change then that's another story. Even better yet why not put it on the ballot & allow voters to decide since they are the ones that are affected?

This UN firearms vote may come as early as within about one month. My understanding is that they are currently bickering over finalizing what is to be considered "unauthorized". Perhaps this is intended to disarm all of the peace lovers in the middle east? Nah!

I quote Rand Paul (from an email he sent out to supporters today): "This UN Gun Ban would almost certainly FORCE the United States to participate in an international gun registry and could require the confiscation and destruction of ALL "unauthorized" civilian firearms in America."

Clearly Rand Paul is taking this quite seriously. If it didn't supersede the Constitution, why should he even be in the least concerned?

Apparently this imminent vote against small arms on the floor of the UN has been in the planning sages for some time now:

I don't have a TV, or get a newspaper. I'm surprised that I've come across this apparently quite critical and serious UN vote on guns, and the rest of you seem to have not heard of it.

I'm guessing either membership is slipping again or arms sales are slacking off, this has been out before it could just be the NRAs before election scare, in any event it's old news & has nothing to do with our rights. http://mediamatters.org/blog/2012/07/05 ... -fo/186956
