Multiple attacks in Mumbai, 80 dead and hostages taken

PostBy: Devil505 On: Wed Nov 26, 2008 5:37 pm

MUMBAI (Reuters) – At least 80 people were killed in attacks apparently aimed at tourists in India's financial capital Mumbai on Wednesday night, and television channels said Westerners were being held hostage at two five-star hotels.

At least 250 people were wounded in the series of attacks, police said. Local television channels said the army had begun moving into one of the hotels, the Oberoi, containing hostages.

Decoy or decentralized operation, apparently.

Looks like the next generation of terrorist attack; same diffuse character but now directed at softer, more highly populated targets, and with hostages.

Munich redux? :annoyed:

Aircraft are too difficult to hijack today, the passengers will kill the hijackers before they are killed themselves. The cowards have to attack only weak targets that are easy.

Now this is the best argument against gun control that exists! (How effective you would be against a well armed group with hand grenades & automatic weapons is pretty doubtful, but at least you may be able to take a few of them with you! :rambo2: )

If "they" want you ....."They" can get you anytime "they" want and there is nothing at all that can be done other than isolate yourself inside a bubble. :(
Just live in constant fear.Thats what "they" want .

I would hope to be effecitve enough to take out more than one of "them". I hope I never have to find out. I am well armed but have no hand grenades or automatic weapons. Maybe I'll build that flame thrower after all................ :shh:

I figure the element of surprise will work long enough for me to empty at least one magazine into them. Beats the Hell out of standing around waiting to be shot!

Main trouble is when your in another country there`s a slim to none chance that you would even be able to carry a weapon with you. Thats one more reason for these cowards to attack the defenseless & to single out the one`s that they know can`t carry. One more reason for Americans to withdraw our companies from less than safe areas.

India has gun control

Gun Ownership in India

By Abhijeet Singh
Colonial Roots of Gun-Control

I live in India and I am a proud firearm owner - but I am the exception not the norm, an odd situation in a country with a proud martial heritage and a long history of firearm innovation. This is not because the people of India are averse to gun ownership, but instead due to Draconian anti-gun legislation going back to colonial times.

To trace the roots of India's anti-gun legislation we need to step back to the latter half of the 19th century. The British had recently fought off a major Indian rebellion (the mutiny of 1857) and were busy putting in place measures to ensure that the events of 1857 were never repeated. These measures included a major restructuring of administration and the colonial British Indian Army along with improvements in communications and transportation. Meanwhile the Indian masses were systematically being disarmed and the means of local firearm production destroyed, to ensure that they (the Indian masses) would never again have the means to rise in rebellion against their colonial masters. Towards this end the colonial government, under Lord Lytton as Viceroy (1874 -1880), brought into existence the Indian Arms Act, 1878 (11 of 1878); an act which, exempted Europeans and ensured that no Indian could possess a weapon of any description unless the British masters considered him a "loyal" subject of the British Empire.

Nope.....Odds would still favor 1,000 people armed only with concealed handguns vs 25 men with automatic weapons.
